Kwata, a small farming settlement in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state in Northwest Nigeria is one of the several farming communities sacked by bandits in recent years.

The bandits in series of coordinated attacks sacked communities with impunity, forcing peasant farmers to abandoned their homes and farmlands.

As the wet season sets in, thousands of farmers could not cultivate their farmlands for fear of attacks by the merciless bandits who killed, maimed, kidnapped and raped women in the troubled areas of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger State in central Nigeria.

The banditry, which started as farmers, harders crises in 2011, has embolded into a full blown terrorism 2016, resulting to the death of over 4000 and displacement of atleast 309,000 persons at of 30 June 2022.

Zamfara state accommodates about 69,000 IDPs, Kaduna 71,000, Katsina 61,000, Sokoto 45,000, while atleast 3,000 have crossed the border through the axis of Maradi to take refuge in Niger Republic.

The large scale displacement of farmers across the region portends potential threats to food security and expose the most populous country in African continent to possible food shortage, hunger and starvation.

Apart from incessant attacks on farmers, the bandits demanded farmers in Kwata village to pay N1.2 million levy equivalent to about $2,500 US dollars, to allow them to access and cultivate their farmlands.

Farmers who broke the laws were trapped by the armed bandits, especially when they attempt to work on their farms, leaving their farmlands uncultivated.

Subsequently, the farmers resumed cultivating their farmlands to produce cereal crops as the only means of livelihood.

However, the bandits reneged on the agreement to allow the farmers work on their farms after payment made to the terrorist group.

Infuriated by resumption of farming activities by the farmers, the bandits ransacked the community, killed 50 persons, razed houses, destroyed farmlands, rustled cattle, abducted 12 women and two men.

Rabiu Musa, a farmer, said we paid N1.2m yet the bandits prevented us from access our farms to cultivate crops.

He said the bandits set animals to graze on the farmlands, and destroyed potato, beans and maize plantations.

Another farmer, Saidu Samaila, who hailed from Gidan Dodo village, said the bandits banned farmers from working in the farmlands after collecting N6 million equivalent to $7,000 US dollars from the farmers.

He said the farmers tasked every households in the community to contribute certain amount of money to enable them pay the levy imposed on them by the bandits.

"I and other farmers fled the village after bandits' attack and took refuge at Kaura Namoda town in the last three months.

"The bandits set three vehicles and nine silos ablaze, my wife and children are staying with relatives in another town. My village is now deserted.

"Presently, I scavenge for leftover produce in the nearby farms to survive," he said.

Narrating her ordeals in the hands of the bandits who abducted during one of the attack on the community, a widow, simply identified as Maryama, said the bandits invaded her village around 4:00 a.m. (GMT).

She said the attackers who engaged in sporadic shooting, gun down anyone on their sight except women.

She alleged that the bandits killed over 50 people mostly adult and male child.

"Women loss their love ones and left to raise children of the deceased, killed by the terrorists.

"Three months after, the bandits launched fresh attack on the village killed two persons 2, injured one and abducted 14 others including myself.

"I stayed for 15 days at the kidnappers den alongside Asiya, Halima and 12 others.

"We stayed with little or nothing to eat day and night.

"I eventually regained freedom after the community members who survived the attacks paid a ransom of N7.2 million equivalent to over $7,000 dollars demanded by the terrorists," she said.

Also, Mariya Aliyu, Aina'u Ali Ja'afar and Haulatu Isa, who lost their husbands in the attacks, said they now fend for the children orphaned by the bandits.

Aliyu, a mother of seven children, said she now took refuge at makeshift shelter in Kaura Namoda.

"I am now staying in Kaura Namoda with my kids , we hardly had one meal a day.

"I fled for my life without taking my personal belongings from my home. I have nowhere to go or what to eat," she said tearfully.

Jafa’ar and Isa, who shared similar experiences with Aliyu, said they now engaged in street begging to feed their children.

They urged the government at the federal and state level to assist them with food and shelter as well as secure the region to enable them to return to their ancestral homes.

On June 6, The Nigerian Red Cross Society has raised an alarm over food insecurity in the North West and North Central in Nigeria, saying "The situation is critical and is one that needs immediate attention.

The Secretary General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Abubakar Kende was quoted in the statement issued by Chima Nwankwo and Aduratomi Bolade, of Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) respectively to have said: “Millions are being affected, particularly women, the elderly, and vulnerable children.

"A good number of them are now in a situation where they do not know where their next meal will come from, and this is something that concerns us greatly.”

"The current situation is making the Nigerian Red Cross Society to take action to fight hunger in North-West and North-Central Nigeria where United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UNFAO) has estimated that about 19.4 million people will be facing acute hunger between June and August 2022," said Bolade in the statement. End.

How developing nations can achieve SDGs through strategy and operations

How developing nations can achieve SDGs through strategy and operations
How developing nations can achieve SDGs through strategy and operations

Ms Ummu Kalthum Muhammad

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Learn more and take action.

Most developing nations have weak statistical capacities and are unable to meet the SDGs' increasing demand for data.

The lack of solid infrastructure and even of rules pertaining to infrastructure is another difficulty that many developing nations encounter when seeking to achieve sustainable development. As a result, many countries are unable to achieve the SDGs because they lack the infrastructure development necessary to support the use of the internet, networking, computers, as well as database management systems. In actuality, the aforementioned components are crucial to good planning, scientific study, nature control, and decision-making.

How developing nations can achieve SDGs through strategy and operations

How developing nations can achieve SDGs through strategy and operations

Lack of access to improved cooking energy technology, which is a problem for the majority of developing countries, is caused by the socioeconomic and technological disparities between each country. The lack of access to reliable energy services is being caused by these obstacles, which are preventing the quality of life in the communities from improving. By developing energy policies relating to revenue production from effective energy activities, this vicious cycle could be ended. If not, SDG number 7 (offering access to affordable and reliable energy) may never be realized, leaving many communities around the world dependent on traditional biomass energy. The majority of people in Sub-Saharan Africa are like that; instead of putting their time towards schooling or other forms of entrepreneurship, women there spend up to four hours a day gathering firewood (SDGs number 4 and 5, Quality Education and Gender Equality respectively).

It is true that innovative strategy and highly effective operations are the two most important factors that can help the United Nations achieve the sustainable development goals, especially the goals are directly connected to the humanitarian sector. Goals like education for all, girl child and women empowerment and access to clean water are goals that the humanitarian sector is interested and committed to achieving.

An effective strategy that can help tremendously in achieving the SDGs by the humanitarian sector is to take it gradually. Rather than focusing on long-term objectives and waiting for a turning point that might never come, we need to set our sights on feasible near-future goals and take small steps to achieve them. Next to this is to strategically balance conflicting objectives because there are instances where objectives clash.

We have also seen that in situations where humanitarian actors use the popular bottom to top approach works better and delivers much success in implementing the SDGs in communities in African countries. This is because it allows the people to own the project.

Another important point to mention here is the use of contextualization. It has been proven that when humanitarian actors make use of stories to drive change, success is achieved.

We cannot expect developing countries to achieve sustainability as easily as developed countries. Rather, we should see sustainable development as a way to understand factors such as poverty and rapid urbanization which indicate whether economic development is possible or not. For that reason, when aiming to achieve the SDGs, organizations should be aware of the fact that factors like poverty and rapid urbanization are still very common in the developing and underdeveloped parts of the world. One way to achieve sustainable development in these countries is by first setting policies to enhance the living conditions of the least fortunate for them to later be able to take care of their environment. If such policies are not implemented in the near future, then not only will the efforts to achieve sustainability fail, but we might also expect poverty to increase in many parts of the world.

Several studies have identified a number of environmental elements as predictors of corporate strategies. Successful strategy execution necessitates having sufficient information on changing client wants, new technology in one's business, and government regulations, as well as knowing what competitors are up to and what is going on in the global economy.

Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, is a seasoned politician, farmer banker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.

OurNigeria News Magazine Politician of the Year Award, 2021.

APC, Cross River State Gubernatorial candidate, for 2023 general elections.

The Proverbial Goldfish.

In what seems like a leap into the future and the exposition of the political pedigree of Senator Prince Bassey Otu's political fortunes and his unique personality, Senator Bassey Otu was in January 28th honoured with the Politician of the Year award by OurNigeria Media publishing firm, a reputable media firm in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja for his exceptional performance and consistency as a politician.

In the words of the publisher, he said, after a careful examination of the antecedents and the political milestones of Distinguished Senator Bassey Edet Otu, he is to be bestowed with the Politician of the Year Award for practically demonstrating that he is a leader who feels the pulse of the people and is concerned with their aspirations. He further said this is simply a way of saying that society recognizes and appreciates all he does for humanity as a political player.

Senator Otu whose political philosophy is anchored on service to humanity and whose brand of politics has always been defined by inclusiveness, kindness, accessibility to the people and most importantly, his inclination to advancing the dignity of the human person, came in handy when the national search for the recipient of the award was done.

The event which was well attended amidst pomp and pageantry attracted the cream de la cream of the society, men from all walks of life, including the military top brass, both serving and retired, captains of industries, politicians, religious and traditional rulers, and of course the media, the fourth estate of the realm, all converged to witness the epoch-making event.

Dr Abubakar Mohammed, publisher of OurNigeria News Magazine at the event succinctly opined while referring to Senator Otu "His brand of politics is exactly what Nigeria needs, politics without animosity, or deep-rooted angst or hate. Politics of empowerment and development for the common man on the street."

The OurNigeria News awards is an annual event organized by OurNigeria News Magazine which was set up in 2019. The 2021 edition which saw Senator Otu receive the award of a Politician of the Year was chaired by Major General Ibrahim Bata Malgwi Haruna(Rtd), while Nigeria's envoy to the Benin Republic, Ambassador TY Buratai was the special guest of honour.

The award featured presentations to prominent individuals who have distinguished themselves in different areas especially their effort in peace-building, endangering peaceful, mutual and cordial coexistence and the advancement of core democratic principles, of course with emphasis on livelihood and humanity.

The choice of Senator Otu for the award was greeted with great excitement from across the broad spectrum of society for truly, he is that goldfish who does not have a hiding place.

The board via the instrumentality of feedback from the masses, questionnaires and recommendations, deliberately took into cognizance and in its choice was more concerned with identifying personalities who have in their different endeavours added value to human systems, particularly democratic evolutions.

Of course, to say that Senator Bassey Edet Otu is the people's man is reiterating the obvious, as encapsulated in his socio-political philosophy,

Senator Bassey Otu remains a man of class who however does not elevate class or social strata, this invariably inter alia is the reason why OurNigeria News Magazine honoured him with such a dignifying award, as the Politician of the Year, 2022.

For Senator Otu, in his socio-political calculations and dynamics, the accidental qualities of existence make no sense to him, he is more inclined to advancing and promoting human ideals, and he is exceptionally inclined toward values, character, content, capacity, and credibility.

That Senator Otu was singled out for such an award shows amongst other things that truly he is a man who enjoys tremendous socio-political goodwill from the testimonies the board received ab initio.

The award that was bestowed on Distinguished Senator Otu, popularly referred to as 'Sweet Prince' was well deserved, considering his track records, pedigree and commendations that greeted the awards. Otu's award is one award that received wide acceptance and commendation both national and internationally and in different circles.

Speaking at the event of the award, Sen. Otu averred the need for leaders to be deliberate about bridging the class gap. He advocated for an egalitarian system where there is less emphasis on class, to reduce tension and strive.

He further dedicated the award to all who love humanity and have promoted good governance. He promised to always stand with the people and to continuously be the man they can trust.

Today by the Grace of God, the people's love for effective and quality representation, the robust and genuine advocacy of compatriots and the acceptance of party leadership, Senator Otu is the irreplaceable, unarguable undefeated gubernatorial candidate of the All progressives Congress(APC) Cross River State after a primary election he roundly defeated other aspirants of which he remains magnanimous in such victory, as in his usual disposition, he believes in togetherness and complementarity.

Sen. Otu is ready to defeat any candidate(s) from other political establishments, he is unperturbed and unabashed because he knows he is disposed of as always to hold in trust for the people their mandate and the people are most comfortable with his representation having been tested.

Senator Otu remains the face of hope for the young people, he remains the rallying point for conservatives and progressives and invariably the point of convergence for the different political establishments, hence he enjoys tremendous socio-political goodwill across party lines.

It's also instructive to posit that Senator Otu is not one politician who needs encomiums or validation to act or display his innate traits of kindness and show of empathy, for him, he is driven by the desire to serve and so the award by OurNigeria News Magazine albeit deserving got to him as a surprise.

Senator Otu as the OurNigeria Politician of the Year remains a personality we will continuously promote as an establishment, for he has so much to give back to society, in terms of good leadership. He remains a pillar of democracy and as we leapfrog into 2023, we urge all Crossriverians and residents to get registered and be prepared to vote for the friend of the masses, for the good of all.

Vox populi,Vox Dei.

Thank you Dr Abubakar Mohammed Sani.

Defence Headquarters dismisses Fani-Kayode’s allegations over  Kuje attack

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed the allegations that the Department of State Security (DSS) informed the military about an impending attack on Kuje Correctional Centre and a previous attack on a Kaduna-Abuja passenger train.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Jimmy Akpor, in a statement on Saturday, described the allegations by a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, as wild and unsubstantiated.

Akpor said that Fani-Kayode made allegations in a social media video following the recent spate of terrorist attacks particularly, the attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre.

He said that Fani-Kayode had also claimed that soldiers were withdrawn shortly before the prison was attacked.

He said that Fani-Kayode was merely playing to the gallery as he was not in any position to know whether the DSS notified the military of any attack.

“It may not be impossible that such a claim is part of a calculated attempt to cause division and rivalry amongst all government agencies that have been working collaboratively in addressing issues of insecurity in the country.

“The claim that soldiers were withdrawn from the Kuje Correctional Custodial Centre before the attack is laughable.

“It is said that Fani-Kayode is ignorant of whose responsibility it is to guard the prison,” he said.

The defence spokesman said that Fani-Kayode had also claimed that the military took no action on the recent Shiroro terrorists’ attack, which resulted in the unfortunate death of some soldiers, policemen and civilians.

He said it was also an attempt to smear the military and create bad blood between service personnel and the military high command.

According to Akpor, it is a despicable statement that does not honour the sacrifices of the gallant officers and soldiers that paid the supreme price while defending the mining community.

“What a shame!  Fani-Kayode is encouraged to pay more attention to the weekly briefs by Defence Media Operations.

“Defence Media Operations gives weekly briefs and updates on operations being conducted across the country; press releases on military operations are also made when the need arises.

“Fani-Kayode is also called to refresh himself on the constitutional roles of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“It is pertinent to state that the armed forces have toiled to sustain and nurture our democracy, hence the same military cannot contemplate a coup d`etat, as alluded to by Fani-Kayode in his video,” he added.

Akpor said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, had always stressed the unalloyed loyalty of the armed forces to the President, Commander-in-Chief and the Nigerian Constitution.

He reiterated the commitment of the military to ensuring the sustenance of democratic governance, warning political actors to depart from evil ways ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He also accused Fani-Kayode of attempting to malign the leadership of the military, by creating an impression that while junior military commanders and non-commissioned officers were working hard, senior commanders were doing nothing.

According to him, this is indeed a difficult time for the armed forces and Nigerians as a whole.

“It is not time for attention-seeking individuals to cause needless distractions.

“Members of the public are, therefore, urged to ignore Fani-Kayode and continue to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to law enforcement agencies,” he added.

2023 Elections: Fusion774 Enjoins PDP to Abhor Campaign of Trivialities

2023 Elections: Fusion774 Enjoins PDP to Abhor Campaign of Trivialities
2023 Elections: Fusion774 Enjoins PDP to Abhor Campaign of Trivialities

Fusion 774, Political Support and Socio-Economic Advocacy Group have urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to desist from the campaign of trivialities as the 2023 general elections draw nearer.

The National Coordinator of Fusion774, Comrade Sadiq Jitka, gave the advice today at a press briefing in Abuja.

Addressing newsmen, Sadiq used the opportunity to urge the PDP as a party to base their campaign on issues that affect the life of Nigerians, and not tarnish the personality of patriotic citizens, like the recent take on the Nigeria Ambassador to Benin Republic Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Lt. Gen. Rtd.), dwelling on issues that have been duly addressed by ICPC.

He said, " I will use this opportunity to urge the PDP as a party to base their campaign on issues that affect the life of Nigerians, not attack on persons, like the recent take on the Nigeria Ambassador to Benin Republic Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Lt. Gen. Rtd.), dwelling on issues that has been duly addressed by ICPC"

The National Coordinator expressed concerns over the precarious developments across the country. And therefore encouraged all eligible Nigerians of voting age to engage in the electoral process to elect credible leaders in the forthcoming elections that will address the prevailing economic crisis and the lingering insecurity conundrum in the country.

Sadiq said, "These strong national concerns have become issues for discussion at every forum. It is agreed that we the citizen and our leaders have failed to leave up to our responsibilities as citizens and if we don’t act fast to make things right, achieving the country of our dream may be a mirage.

"The upcoming 2023 general election is going to be an opportunity for us to elect leaders that have the capacity to deliver in terms of addressing the economic and security situation of the country. Our participation to make things right is going to be the choice decision we are going to make, while electing the right leadership".

The Group further condemned strongly, the spate of insecurity in the country, the recent killing of military officers in Niger State and recent happenings in States like Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, South East and elsewhere in Nigeria.

He also noted the recent jailbreak by the ISWAP terrorist group leading to the release of suspected dangerous elements into our society thus further heightening the insecurity precipitation. And urged the government to live up to their responsibility and double their efforts to stem the tide.

Sadiq concluded by wishing all Muslim faithful, a special Eid-Kabir celebration, and pray God to make it hitch-free, He also called on people of all faith to pray for the peace of the country at this trying time.

Below is the full text of the press briefing;

MEDIA BRIEFING BY COMRADE SADIQ JIKTA NATIONAL COORDINATOR, FUSION 774

Distinguish colleagues, members of the press, ladies and gentlemen Good afternoon and thank you for honouring to come for this media briefing.

This briefing is to express our concern as a group and of the concern of most Nigerians, this concern is of the economic and insecurity situation of the country, during this transition period toward electing new leaders.

These strong national concerns have become issues for discussion at every forum. It is agreed that we the citizen and our leaders have failed to leave up to our responsibilities as citizens and if we don’t act fast to make things right, achieving the country of our dream may be a mirage.

The upcoming 2023 general election is going to be an opportunity for us to elect leaders that have the capacity to deliver in terms of addressing the economic and security situation of the country. Our participation to make things right is going to be the choice decision we are going to make while electing the right leadership.

We the Nigerian citizens deserve quality governance and we are responsible for it. The lack of consistency in governance has been a major setback for us as a country. We must ensure consistency in governance while encouraging sustainable policy initiatives and ensuring people-friendly programmes.

It is time to take advantage of our vast population, we must invest in our people.

Nigeria has a poor human development index; human resource development plays a vital role in the prosperity of every nation, we stand to achieve a quantum leap, if we invest in our human resources, thereby, addressing the lack of employment facing the youth today. Unemployment is one of our most pressing problems.

Let’s vote for those that understand this as an issue of national emergency.

When we are voting for leaders in the next election let’s look at those with the trait of building people, those that have the track record in investing in people, this is the future we are looking at, we have to get it right this time, we must come out and vote in numbers. We have to get our PVC today, now. Our PVC is our tool for working out good governance.

We find it a duty to condemn the spate of insecurity in the country, the recent killing of military officers in Niger State is of great concern to us, just as the once happening in States like Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, South East and elsewhere in Nigeria.

We condemn all acts of criminality in the country. We stand to condemn the recent jailbreak by the ISWAP terrorist group leading to the release of suspected dangerous elements into our society thus further heightening the insecurity precipitation. We urge the government to live up to its responsibility and double its effort to stem the tide.

In this political transition period, political parties that want our votes should convince us with their roadmap, manifestoes and issue-based discussions, not trivialities.

I will use this opportunity to urge the PDP as a party to base their campaign on issues that affect the life of Nigerians, not attack persons, like the recent take on the Nigeria Ambassador to the Benin Republic Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Lt. Gen. Rtd.), dwelling on issues that have been duly addressed by ICPC.

We at Fusion774 are using this opportunity to state our unalloyed position on supporting credible candidates with a track record of good team selection, completed projects, people-oriented programmes, human capital building and enduring legacy.

Lastly, we wish our Muslim brethren a special Eid-Kabir celebration, we pray to God to make it hitch-free, and we also call on people of all faith to pray for the peace of the country at this trying time.

Buratai: You Have Lost Focus - Group Tells PDP

Buratai: You Have Lost Focus - Group Tells PDP
Buratai: You Have Lost Focus - Group Tells PDP

Political support and Socio-economic Advocacy Group, Fusion774 said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lost focus as the main opposition political party in Nigeria.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to Newsmen by the National Coordinator Mr Sadiq Jikta in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Group is reacting to the news circulating in the media of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), calling on Mr President to recall the Nigeria Envoy to the Republic of Benin, and former Chief of Army Staff, Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Lt. Gen. Rtd), from his place of assignment.

Fusion774 faulted the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the claim that N1.85 billion was recovered at a property in Abuja belonging to Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai.

According to Fusion774, the rantings of the PDP were ill-conceived, tactless and inconsequential, and portray it as a party lacking campaign ideas. It is so apparent that the so-called opposition party has lost essence and sense of direction and only now feeds on fake news to justify its existence.

The leadership of the Group wondered why PDP should embark on a calamitous campaign to smear the personality of Amb. Buratai, even after the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) had dissociated itself from the misleading fake reports in circulation. The ICPC stated clearly that it had already apprehended the Managing Director of K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited, Mr Kabiru Salau.

The Group said Nigerians want to hear an informed analysis of the contents of the PDP manifesto and advised the party to tell Nigerians what it has in stock for them if they should vote for the party in the coming 2023 general elections.

"In an electioneering period like now, political parties come up with enlightened issues of national importance, issues that will appeal to voters, instead of play diversionary tactics," it said.

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced training of 150 youths and women on waste management in Gombe. The commission disclosed that training was in preparation for the commencement of its waste to wealth program in Gombe.

The Head of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Commission Mr Adamu Lawan disclosed this while speaking with Newsmen shortly after the flag-off of the week Training in Gombe on Monday.

He said that the training was for the beneficiaries to be educated on how to identify and separate recyclable waste from solid waste for a gainful venture.

Mr Lawan said that based on its mandate the NEDC which is an interventional and developmental commission was to look into and identify ways of developing the region. “So, this wasted of wealth is one of the areas we have identified. Globally now this waste to a wealth of a thing has become a lucrative business,” he said.

He added after the training the commission will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for them to start scavenging and generating wealth for themselves.

“We have two layers for the training, first are the train the trainers, who are 50 and then 100 scavengers.

“The train trainers are made up of graduates and some NCE holders, the scavengers are made up of mostly youths that are school dropouts, some are even Kalare Boys (thugs) and the plan was to pull them off the street and be gainfully engaged and be able to earn living through this waste to wealth program”.

Lawan further said that the commission had plans to establish a waste recycling plant to further boost the waste to wealth program in Gombe.

His word, “We already have the machines in our stores, so after the training, it is going to be installed in the state to begin the process of recycling waste and generating wealth for the people”.

“We liaised with the state government to help in identifying and selecting the beneficiaries. This is phase one, we are already working on the second phase of the program. We intend to take it to the local government level”.

Secretary of the Gombe state scrap dealers’ association Abubakar Umar (Abubakar Glo) who was at the training told Daily Sun that the training was a welcome development to the association because it will further impact and give our business government recognition.

We have been appealing and calling on the government to invest in the business, now with the coming of the NEDC and the plan to set up a recycling plant in Gombe our over 40,000 members and those coming in and even the state can be sure of generating more wealth from our waste while also cleaning the environment,” he stated.

Ambassador Buratai as a Victim of PDP’s Phantom Patriotism

Ambassador Buratai as a Victim of PDP’s Phantom Patriotism
Ambassador Buratai as a Victim of PDP’s Phantom Patriotism

By Maiwada Dammallam

Ambassador Buratai as a Victim of PDP’s Phantom Patriotism: In a report published by Daily Trust Newspaper (4/7/21), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to recall the former chief of army staff (COAS) and Nigeria’s ambassador to the Benin Republic, Tukur Buratai, to face investigations and clear his name over his alleged connection to the N1.8bn recovered in Abuja. Apparently, PDP is reacting to the money recovered from a property in Abuja by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), recently.

If anything, PDP’s ranting on this matter only proved how shallow and ill-motivated its newly found sense of accountability is besides proving how hopelessly retarded PDP is and how hopelessly irreversible the situation is. One could only wonder what substances they feed people at Wadata Plaza that every next National Publicity Secretary is as daftly equipped as the last; always good at scoring own goals or at best, exposing the ill-preparedness of the PDP as the main opposition party.

ReadAlso: NDF blast PDP over promoting fake News against Amb Buratai

How else could one explain the silliness of this round of PDP’s anti-corruption crusade? According to its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the call to President Buhari to recall the former chief of army staff (COAS) and Nigeria’s ambassador to the Benin Republic, Gen. Tukur Buratai was predicated on the statement released to the public by the ICPC on the N1.8bn saga. It’s interesting then, that while ICPC in the statement released to media or anywhere else, did not link the recovery to Gen. Buratai in any manner whatsoever, PDP is urging President Buhari to investigate Buratai on the case. What could be after?

PDP’s strain of amnesia is out of this world too. While PDP is “patriotically” urging President Buhari to investigate people in cases they have no relevance, the entire Wadata Plaza is overcrowded with beneficiaries of the $2.3bn arms scandal perpetrated by the PDP in its dying days. If the call to President Buhari to investigate Buratai is for him (Buratai) to clear his name as Ologunagba put it, I will take PDP is fully convinced of the guilt of its warlords and the hopelessness of any effort to clear their names hence, the party’s lack of interest to invite President Buhari to speedy up the process of clearing their names in various courts across Nigeria where they make regular appearances to answer questions about not only the above mentioned $2.3bn monumental heist but about similar others of different categories and classifications. PDP is simply shameless!

Funnily, PDP said the assertion by Monguno heightened suspicion on allegations of barefaced looting of money meant to equip our security forces. Very few people will forget that the same PDP crying about an imaginary “barefaced looting of money meant to equip our security forces, left the Nigerian Army fighting Boko Haram almost barehanded, a situation that seriously degraded the morale and capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces to the lowest minimum achievable. It’s the same Buratai that today PDP is picking on who halted and reversed the embarrassing situation, restoring honour, decency and dignity into the Nigerian Army while recovering for Nigeria a considerable number of LGAs that were conceded to Boko Haram by the PDP. PDP should go all the way; floor the gas pedal of shamelessness and tell Nigerians Buratai achieved this feat with clubs and catapults and not with the critical weapons it denied the army which billions of dollars voted to purchase were shared by PDP warlords.

PDP should also deny Nigeria has been taking delivery of military hardware which orders were placed during the life of this administration and during the tenure of Gen. Buratai as Chief of Army Staff. Even more mesmerizing is PDP’s respect for Monguno on the whose misquoted assertion the party is trading what’s left of its respectability for phantom accolades by mostly its foot soldiers. Less we forget, the Office of the National Security Adviser has to release a statement to clarify the position of the NSA. A report, titled “Missing arms funds: NSA Monguno makes U-turn, says he was “misquoted,” published by Daily Nigerian (12/3/21) partly read thus:

“The attention of the Office of the National Security Adviser has been drawn to some media reports regarding Armed Forces equipment during an interview with the BBC Hausa service.  We would like to state that the NSA was quoted out of context as he did not categorically say that funds meant for arms procurement were missing under the Former Service Chiefs as reported or transcribed by some media outlets from the BBC interview. During the interview, the National Security Adviser only reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to deal decisively with insecurity and stated President Muhammadu Buhari’s continued commitment to provide all necessary support to the Armed Forces, including the provision of arms and equipment.”

“In the interview the National Security Adviser clearly informed the BBC reporter that Mr President has provided enormous resources for arms procurement, but the orders were either inadequate or yet to be delivered and that did not imply that the funds were misappropriated under the former Service Chiefs. The NSA also informed the reporter that, Mr President is following up on the procurement process as is usual with contracts relating to military equipments, in most cases the process involves manufacturing, due diligence and tedious negotiations that may  change delivery dates.”

Then, Olugunagba must be high on something to ignore all this in a blind pursuit to drag the name of Gen. Buratai in what’s clearly a syndicated effort to discredit him for being a stalwart of the APC. In my previous outing on this matter, I warned about a syndicated agenda to go after APC stalwarts by the PDP in its blind and clearly hopeless effort to reclaim power from the APC come 2023. With this, I’m vindicated.

Finally, let me infuse humour into this opinion by closing with this humorous anecdote as contained in its latest verbiage:

“Any allegation bordering on the looting of funds meant for the fight against terrorism is of grave national concern and consequence. It must be thoroughly investigated and anybody found wanting must be made to face the full weight of the law no matter how highly place.”

This is PDP talking. I’m convinced, that whatever substance is being abused in Wadata Plaza is worse than expired “ganja” mixed with “ogogoro.” Truly, PDP’s aversion to honour, decency and fairness is as unprecedented as its legendary. It’s particularly important for APC to see and respond to this attack for what it is — a syndicated attack on this administration to dampen the chances of APC coming in 2023. This is not about Gen. Buratai or fighting corruption in Nigeria. PDP is the least to be interested in the administration’s fight against corruption because it’s the enemy. This is about smearing APC by the PDP to balance the existing moral deficiency it’s carrying like a hump on a camel’s back. Dear APC, be warned!

NDF blast PDP over promoting fake News against Amb Buratai

NDF blast PDP over promoting fake News against Amb Buratai
NDF blast PDP over promoting fake News against Amb Buratai

The National Democratic Front (NDF)has blasted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over promoting  Fake News against Former Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Ambassador Yusufu Tukur Buratai.

This was contained in a Press Statement signed by the Secretary-General, Dr Bolaji Abdulkadir made available to Newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

ReadAlso: Abuja property raided by ICPC does not belong to Buratai-Official

“PDP Feasting on Fake News is afraid of 2023  General Election.

The National Democratic Front (NDF) is surprised at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s brazenness that made it weaponize fake news, launching it at the Nigerian public and went on to believe that there are no right-thinking individuals to find out its lies and manipulative ways.

He said that NDF is particularly amused at PDP’s latest tirade directed at Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Ambassador Tukur Buratai on the false allegation that the N1.85 billion recovered by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a property in Abuja belonged to the accomplished retired Army boss.

“It is common knowledge that Ambassador Buratai, through his lawyers and aides has unequivocally distanced himself from the recovered money and cars while the ICPC had also made it clear that the Ambassador was not a person of interest in its investigation and that it has already apprehended the Managing Director of K Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited, Mr Kabiru Salau, whose company is a Defence contractor.

“The anti-graft agency had further clarified the cash and assets it recovered from the said property amounted to N267.43 million and not N1.85 billion, which leaves one wondering if the PDP is in touch with reality or rather absorbed in believing the fake news that it is attempting to feed Nigerians with.

He said that the statement by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba attempted to rehash the fake news that linked Ambassador Buratai to the phantom N1.85 recovered funds is so incoherent and disjointed that apparently, the so-called opposition party has lost essence and sense of direction and only now feeds on fake news to justify its existence.

“While it attempted to paint the outstanding former COAS as a corrupt person, PDP’s tenuous attempt to string together unrelated variables and create a nexus to the 2023 General Elections shows that the party fears the trouncing awaiting it at the forthcoming polls hence the unreasonable fear that has left it grasping at straws in a bid to assemble the excuses it would give for being rejected by Nigerians yet again.

Rather than maligning the personality of persons that have sacrificed for the country, the PDP should direct its efforts at discussing issues since this is the only way political parties can pitch themselves to Nigerians.

“NDF finds it necessary to advise the PDP to stop projecting its warped values on other political parties and public office holders since the allegation against Ambassador Buratai fits into the pattern of looting that the PDP used to destroy Nigeria and precipitate the security crisis that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has grappled with thus far.

The Statement said that the insecurity resulting from bad governance does not occur overnight but takes time to manifest and the fact that the security fallout resulting from PDP’s years of misrule manifested under the present government does not in any way absolve the party of responsibility for what it did to Nigeria.

“We further urged the PDP to seek forgiveness from Nigerians and atone for its sins against the country in the hope that its members would one day be found worthy of being rehabilitated and reintegrated into mainstream politics and governance, which Nigerians presently think the party is unfit for.

“However, dishing out fake news about Ambassador Buratai and the incumbent government would only deepen the odiousness in which citizens hold the party owing to the magnitude of perversions its members committed in the office while the party held sway.

Oyeyemi gave the names of the suspects as Daniel Njoku (a.k.a Agege), Damilare Ogundiran and Adebayo Olamilekan.

He explained further that they were arrested following a report lodged at Ajuwon Police Divisional Headquarters by the mother of the victim.

According to the victim’s mother, she sent her 15 years old daughter on an errand in Akute Odo area but was allegedly waylaid by Daniel Njoku.

And Njoku forcefully took her to his gang at their hideout where the young girl was gang-raped, beaten and forcefully initiated into the Eiye cult group.

The complainant further explained that her daughter was threatened by the suspects and that she would be killed if she dared inform anybody about the incident.

“Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Ajuwon Division, SP Andrew Akinseye, detailed his detectives to go after the hoodlums.

“The team, acting on credible intelligence, located the hideout of the group at Akute Odo area, stormed the place and succeeded in arresting three members of the gang.

“They confessed to the commission of the crime, and informed the police that they were desperately looking for more members to join their group, especially female members, and this prompted them to do what they did.

The Statement said the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to an anti-cult section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The latest book is an A-rated publication that would be of interest to many, especially those seeking more insights into the global oil market dynamics, geopolitics, oil diplomacy, secrets behind the survival and sustainability of OPEC, the birth of the behemoth OPEC+ that shakes the market, why, when OPEC sneezes, the world catches a cold, future of OPEC and the energy market, among others.
